Re: 66 289 2bbl manifold question - Wed, 10 Mar 2010 01:00:11 GMT-
Each August during a weekend they close downtown Bend to normal street traffic and only allow classics to cruise, No racing or burn off's but a lot of great cars to look at and see driving the route. Hopefully I will have my car done to run it this year. Last year several hot Mustangs, Boss's, Shelby's and other American classic's I cannot mention specifically on this site.
Lots of fun, maybe s...
Re: 66 289 2bbl manifold question - Wed, 10 Mar 2010 00:15:27 GMT- Thanks Jeff. We've been thinking about taking it over to Bend, but we always end up taking the chevy instead. It's just a little too far to be a fun drive in a convertible. I plan on going to the car show one of these days though, hope to see you there.
Re: 66 289 2bbl manifold question - Wed, 10 Mar 2010 00:05:18 GMT-
Hey 66 Convert. Jeff from Bend, OR here. Very nice 66' convertible I am working on a 67' convertible.
Looking forward to warmer weather over on this side of the mountains so I can take mine out of the shop and drive it over the summer!!
Re: 88 mustang stalls in heat - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:41:15 GMT- You might check your fuel line if it sits close to the intake or other hot parts. It needs to be up and away to get plenty of airflow around it. A good 2" or more above anything hot. Some guys will even run header wrap around the fuel line to keep it from getting hot. It looks like hell, but it works.
Re: Calais - Reims France - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:40:31 GMT-
Hi Ladybird,
The owner of the 68 California Special said he will there to meet you at Calais but I don't think there will be anyone else from the French section. If there is any change of plan, let me know.
Here is a picture of his car, I don't think you will miss it.
Re: New Memeber from Oregon - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:37:58 GMT- Thanks. One thing about living in Oregon, you don't ever take your convertible for granted. There's nothing better than cruising through wine country with the top down though.
Re: New Memeber from Oregon - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:34:57 GMT- Pretty car! I hope you get to use it with the top down, but living in OR you probably won't too often?
Re: 66 289 2bbl manifold question - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:26:37 GMT- Old gas makes a lot more sense than oil, I guess I should have given it the sniff test. I set the float at 3/8, carb upside down over my head like I read in one of your earlier posts. Cool trick. Thanks for the help. I'll bolt it on tonight and see how it works.
Re: 66 289 2bbl manifold question - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 22:10:26 GMT- It's probably not oil, but a collection of gas that has thickened over time and heat. The gasket probably has been leaking for sometime now. The reason for the depression is to disperse heat to keep vapor lock down to a minimum. Just replace the gasket and you should be fine. Did you make sure the float on that 2100 that you rebuilt was set properly? That is about the most important step i...
Re: '65 Fastback at painters-HOME, now waiting for upholstery! - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 21:54:57 GMT- Awesome car, I can't wait to hear about the first cruise.
Re: Calais - Reims France - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 21:21:24 GMT-
Someone from Calais with a 68 Calfornia Special is interested to join you. Can you tell me if you are crossing with a ferry or the tunnel and what time you plan to arrive in Calais?
Hi Thierry, I have not heard from you or the person with thr 68 California Special. We will be arriving in 10 days so not long now. D...
Re: New Memeber from Oregon - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 21:09:43 GMT- That's a beautiful vert. Quite a head turner.
New Memeber from Oregon - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 20:16:27 GMT- Hey everybody. Newbie from Oregon with a 66 convertible, 289 C code, AT, A/C. Great forum with tons of info, you guys rock!!!
Re: '65 Fastback at painters-HOME, now waiting for upholstery! - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 19:46:45 GMT- Yeah, leave the chrome off until the paint job is complete. The wet sanding produces a ton of yellow crap that will get under the chrome and cause you problems with rusting later. If I were you, I'd take that hood trim back off. She sure is going to be a pretty thang when finished. Your painter is right to let it cure for at least a month before clear coating it. You are lucky to have war...
66 289 2bbl manifold question - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 18:16:02 GMT- I rebuilt my autolite 2100 yesterday, and when I removed the spacer and gasket from the manifold there was a chamber on the driver side that was full of oil. Does anyone know where the oil would come from and why the chamber is there? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: '65 Fastback at painters-HOME, now waiting for upholstery! - Tue, 09 Mar 2010 14:15:13 GMT-
Nope. Not yet. It will be another few weeks yet.
Right now, I have it back home letting some 60 degree weather and sun get to it. The painter wants about 4 weeks of cure time, because of our recent brutal winter, before he does final color sanding and polishing. So, I'm parking it outside in the sun when the weather lets me. The upholsterer will come and get it the week of the 15th (next ...
