Chevy Sprint - Geo Metro - Suzuki Swift - Pontiac Firefly

I made it - Tue Feb 07, 2012 7:13 pm
by geodan (Posted Tue Feb 07, 2012 7:13 pm)
Well i do have a title now but no vin # that I can find. I got the car from a reputable guy and in NC can get the car registered even if it is a salvaged title. 2 Geos gotta be better than one. My first one was getting about 48 MPG with a personal best of 53 MPG and it is a real beater and would make good project for my full hydrogen conversion.

New here! - Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:48 pm
by maas562 (Posted Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:48 pm)
Hey all.

I lurk around on other forums but just found this one today.

Anyways I have a 95 3/5 with 178,000 on the clock. I bought it as a work car and it slowly became my work car since it's much nicer to fill up than my truck.
I repaired the frame
New CV's
New tires
Completely new rockers
Rear strut bar
Custom roof rack
Custom header

I do sell Headers and other parts for metros. Here is my website http://geometroforum.com/pages/maas
The site is hosted through GMF, I don't mean to violate any advertising polices.

my "new" metro - Tue Jan 31, 2012 5:34 pm
by lurker (Posted Tue Jan 31, 2012 5:34 pm)
it lives! :D
i think the timing was out 180, and my timing light has a loose connector.
i pulled the timing cover and valve cover, made sure everything was right, put it back together and it fired right up. i set the timing to 12 btdc, and drove it down to the stop sign, around the loop and back, no problems.

the valve train is noisier than i like but i'm hoping it's just taking a while for the oil to make it's rounds. tomorrow maybe i'll make the big trip to town and back, 9 miles all around.

a word to the wise. the aluminum housing the distributor mounts into is delicate, be gentle with it. broke one, second one started to crack

93 Geo Back & Forth Rocking Making Me Motion Sick! - Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:27 am
by Geojohn (Posted Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:27 am)
The A/C kicks on and off a lot-- are you sure that's not what you're feeling? AC takes a lot of power and you definately feel the car slow when it kicks on! ??

Fuel capacity in a 93 Metro? - Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:14 am
by Geojohn (Posted Fri Jan 20, 2012 2:14 am)
But you don't need the ether. The fuel pump runs briefly when you turn the key. After adding gas, do it a couple times and then crank it and it will start right up. 10.6 is right on, but if you fuel when it gets to the red, a couple gal less seems what my 93 and 90 both run. I carry a gallon spare, and have put in 10.7 once without putting in spare. Perhaps the station pump was off? Love these Metros, esp 93's.
New fuel pumps have sure became an issue. I can't find a "cheap" one that fits the old sock screen. And they have gone up to as high as $219 for an ACDelco (without sock) Fortunately, they don't seem to go bad often. Maybe sitting unused is bad on them, I'm thinking.

a google search for "sprint performance parts" might be helpful.
while i don't like to send people to other forums, http://teamswift.net/ is more performance oriented, and might provide more pointed guidance.

NEED HELP in Penna! - Mon Jan 16, 2012 8:04 pm

glad to hear it's working out for you. i used to work as a commercial driver for a parts house and got to watch a lot of "mechanics" at work. some of them are just part swappers and are fairly clueless, certifications notwithstanding.

new from New Jersey with frame rust problems - Thu Jan 12, 2012 11:40 am
by kencnj (Posted Thu Jan 12, 2012 11:40 am)
I own 2 1995 Geo Metros, a 3 cylinder 5-speed with 132,00 miles and a 4 cylinder automatic LSI with 93,000 miles. The 3 cylinder has frame rust, which I'm finding out is quite common, especially in the cold and damp regions such as the northeast. I really love this car, especially when I can fill the tank for a little over $20 when gas prices increase. I would hate to scrap it, so I was wondering if there is anyone in my region that can fix this frame rust.

Headlights not working. - Sat Jan 07, 2012 3:13 am
by clinderswon (Posted Sat Jan 07, 2012 3:13 am)
tjglove wrote:My 2001 chevy metro has problems with it's hid headlights. At first the lights only flickered on and off but now they won't turn on at all. These are just the running lights though; the high beams work just fine and sometimes I have to use these at night. I have replaced the bulbs and replaced the headlamp relays as well as some additional fuses and I'm still not sure what the problem can be.

Pretty much the wire harness plug into the fuse box and the wire harness plug into the daytime running light module.you got to fix it first

Hello! We are looking for a 3rd gen Sprint Turbo that's in relatively good shape -- plus:

> a spare Turbo engine
> a standard 3rd gen engine
> a spare 3rd gen manual transmission compatible with the Turbo
> Turbo Sprint service manual

We are building a project car, not a daily driver -- so the quality of the interior etc is not important.

Please contact me with details and prices.

Thanks!
