BMW Design Mille Miglia Concept car sketches
The BMW 2006 Concept Mille Miglia Coupé was a retro' Design project with  strong Design features and new interpretation of volumes and forms cut by retro' graphics, a typical Bangle's conceptual visionary idea.
The exterior car sketches are very well done and a very good example of simple Car Design expression on paper, very light technique and very effective, light shading with few details.
Great example of good exterior car design sketches from BMW Design studio.

Alfa Romeo proposals by Vadim Artemiev

Vadim Artemiev has done several really cool design proposals about different brands, I picked up this one on an Alfa Romeo Coupe design because I think it is not bad at all. It is a little bit retro', simple and sporty, it has also a certain elegance which is very much in the Alfa spirit of the 60s.
Nice rendering too, we can see and understand the forms and volumes, good use of red color (the car looks really red) and clear focal point.

Check out some of Vadim Artemiev works.

Too Late watches is Low Design

With the economic crisis there is a new trend in Design: the essential or low design. Get the most with little, provoke emotions with extreme simplicity and low cost design.

The Too Late glowing watches are a good example. Made of sylicon, waterproof, 5 colors, ultralight and a trendy attractive design. I just bought one a week ago and since then it is always with me.

Car Sketch Studio by Mason
 Dear friends,
few days ago I received an email by Mason (the author of this cool sketch) asking for some infos about Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Withe great pleasure I answeared back writing all I knew about ACCD and life down there, how you prepare to be accepted and attend the school.
Mason also asked me to look at some of his car sketches to give him a constructive critique, so I went on his blog named Sketch Studio and I found some real nice car sketches and drawings and , most of all, I discovered he is 15 of age! Yes you got it right!
Mason is 15 years old and is doing a great job on his own at home before going to Design school! He is doing it correctly respecting the good method: ideation sketches, bigger detailed sketches and final illustration et renderings. His skills are already at a good development stage, he needs a school to become a real good designer.
So for those that want to know about real talent, strong motivating passion and hard work check out Mason's blog clicking: Mason Sketch Studio.

Clay model in Car Design

Clay models

In Car Design schools there is a course of model making which is very important to complete our car design educational course. To be able to model with our hands our own design is the best thing we could do to learn about car design.
In design studios there are several designers (not too many) whom did not have the opportunity to learn how to use model making tools to work with wood, clay, resin, paint, bondo, and transfer their own design's sections on a clay buck to turn it into a good lokking car model. This step is very important because helps us to understand how to convert the 2D...keep reading and watch the video by clicking: Clay models in Car Design

The state of Design by Lucian Rosca
 Los Angeles by Lucian Rosca

From time to time I find in different places on the internet, posts or articles about design and the condition of the designer, how the designers are viewed and treated, and how that influences a business and its brand image.
But what is design? From Wikipedia:
“No generally-accepted definition of ‘design’ exists, and the term has different connotations in different fields. Informally, ‘a design’ (noun) refers to a plan for the construction of an object (as in architectural blueprints, circuit diagrams and sewing patterns) and ‘to design’ (verb) refers to making this plan“…”With such a broad denotation, there is no universal language or unifying institution for designers of all disciplines. This allows for many differing philosophies and approaches toward the subject.”
This reality, reflected in the above definition, is actually creating the issue these posts or articles are bringing up: what is the role of the designer in an organization, how designers are viewed and treated and how all this influences the company’s brand image.

Design Management: Managing Design Strategy, Process and Implementation (Required Reading Range)

Early this year, I met at an industry event a professional working for an IT company as a marketer. He told me that he designed the latest phone his company just released. Knowing that marketing deals with creating customer interest in products or services, like advertising, and creates strategies that underlay sales techniques, business communication, and business development, I asked how exactly he designed the phone. His answer was “I had a guy who did the drawings for me”.

Vasiliy Kanevskiy is a russian designer and architect living in Moscow, on his blog I looked at this cool car BMW illustration. i decided to make a post of it because Vasiliy's sketching and illustration technique shows an interesting and well done free style.

University and Design Art College
This week I received an email by an italian young student passionate of Car Design asking me for help. How do I become a car designer? I explaned that first of all he had to show me few drawings just to understand his level of talent before telling him the all process to follow. Few days later I received, by email, some sketches done by him and I found a certain talent! So, according to his motivation, I wrote him back telling him that he was elegible to try for an admission interview at design schools. I explaned to prepare at least 15 drawings on a A3 format, plus his quick sketches and to go visit a short list of italian design schools.
The objectif was to chose the right school and start the car design education cursus. In other words to get him in the right process.
I was surprised when I received his email and the reason is the following; he told me that his intention was...Keep reading here.

Car interior sketch
I saw this sketch on Facebook published by Michele Leonello (ex Alfa Romeo designer and a friend). I find this sketch very good because it has a great perspective and composition, its coloring is light and the sections added give us a good perception of proportions and real volumes. The details give realism to the design and the sketch becomes very credible. It is a good work, an example for all of you. try to copy it and add your own design.

Good sketch by Sumano Indie
Yesterday I published a video tutorial from Youtube about a digital car sketch on black background and this is what I found on my Facebook page done by Sumano Indie. It is a great sketch trial following the demo I published.
Good example of who uses my posts and suggestions to feel motivated to try!
Thank you Sumano and keep up the good work!

Moto Bike Design
Today, and for the first time here, a moto bike design sketch! I know that I almost never proposed anything about moto bike design concepts and sketches...so I decide to do it today following always the rule of this blog which is: to be instructional.
This nice sketch is work of Xenophia Design and designer Ellis Pitt.
To discover the prototype they made and final result please click "Xenophia Design".

Fiat Bravo proposal by Victor Uribe Chacon
Victor Uribe is a 2nd year student of Transportation Design Dpt at IED in Torino, Italy. Victor shows a good sensibility in using colors, perspective and also proportions. If we want to find something to criticize, we could say that the design could have been more creative a bit more advanced.
At the same time we do not know the project breaf so we cannot say much. What i like the most and that makes of this sketch a good one is: composition and car point of view, color choice and the good control of warm and cool colors.

Car sketching and ideation sketching
Click on image for larger view

Dear friends,
often I write about good sketch books and the importance of making more than one. Today I publish a good example of ideation sketching and car design sketching made by Samir Sadikhov.
The key elements to check and try to copy are: proportions, drawing sections on sketches, perspective, dynamic composition on page, page format, focal point and interest, detailing. Naturally Samir's creativity is preatty good and the way he his sketching his ideas lets us imagine the rest, in other words Samir does not draw every single element and detail of his design proposal and this gives our imagination the opportunity to go over his proposal. We complete the design in our head, we partecipate to his work because he lets us do it by not making super finished and detailed sketches.
I suggest you to visit his blog clicking Samir's blog.

How do I choose my Car Design School?
Dear friends,
This is the time everybody is searching for a good Design school to attend next academic year. In Transportation Design , in some ways, it is easier to choose because there are less schools. At the same time all these schools are in competition with each others and offer similar programs, similar methods and similar contacts.

Now the question is: how do I choose my Transportation Design School?

There are some Design schools that are very famous in this discipline like: In USA Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and CCS in Detroit. In Europe we could name Pforzheim Schule in Germany, or State College in ParisFrance, or IAAD and IED in TurinItaly, or UMEAUniversity in Sweden, or MAMI International in MoscowRussia. In Asia TCA Tokyo in Japan and so on.
Now lets’ be careful because all these schools have “similarities” but also “differences” and sometime those differences are important.
The main element to make your choice is: to continue your reading please click "Design school choice".
